Joy Radar · Social Emotional Intelligence
Social Emotional Learning as a leadership concept — mapped at the census tract and county level. Every neighborhood carries a Shame Currency (how much inequality suppresses awakening) and a Happiness Currency (how much care economy and narrative liberation activates it).
Shame Currency
Gini coefficient × institutional control narrative. High shame currency = community's emotional energy is spent managing inequality, not building.
Happiness Currency
Care economy density × liberation narrative × equality. High happiness currency = community has the infrastructure to rest, repair, and lead.

The Framework
In institutional settings, SEL is usually framed as something children need to manage their behavior. The Nap Map inverts this: SEL is what leadership requires. Leaders who cannot read the emotional terrain of a community cannot repair it.
Shame currency circulates when inequality is high and institutions suppress feedback. Communities sleep — not from rest but from exhaustion.
Happiness currency circulates when care infrastructure is visible, labor is recognized, and narrative frames liberation. Communities wake — and when they wake, they lead.
The Nap Map is a leadership diagnostic. Use the County view for a broader picture, or zoom into Tracts for neighborhood-level precision.
